We Are One of the Hungriest States in the Country

Twenty percent of Arkansas residents live below the poverty line. One in four children don't get enough to eat. We are tied with Mississippi on the USDA's list of states with the highest rates of food insecurity.

With such stunning needs, we have a state legislature that takes up such asinine things as abortion, the right to carry guns, and a mandatory voter ID law. All of these men and women should be ashamed of themselves. So should the people who voted for them. Most of these very people will end up hungrier and poorer because of their choice. It's hard to feel sorry for them. They're going to end up getting what they deserve. Maybe it's the education. We currently stand 46th among the states in educational achievement. That's the 46th lowest.

These right-wing yahoo's appeal to the uneducated. In a funny twist of fate, they also appeal to the educated, as demonstrated by the Village. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's the water. Maybe it's the gene pool, swimming in the water. We now rank as having the 48th dumbest state legislature. At least we ae good at a few things.
